The Interstate 405 (I-405), one of Orange County’s most congested freeways, will soon be upgraded with additional lanes that will improve traffic flow and safety. Caltrans, in cooperation with OCTA, is proposing to widen the I-405 between State Route 73 (SR-73) and Interstate 605 (I-605). Currently, vehicle trips in some areas exceed 300,000 each day. By 2040, traffic volumes are expected to increase significantly and the population is expected to grow by 11 percent.
The densely populated project area is also home to many businesses. Last week, as it prepares to begin construction in fall of 2016, OCTA reached out to businesses along the I-405 corridor to learn about their operations. Informational postcards with messaging in three languages were mailed to 16,000 businesses within a half-mile of the project area, asking for their help in completing an online survey about their business operations. The responses will help OCTA plan construction activities with an awareness of the needs of the local business community.
