Following four weeks of smooth paving and early completions, the 10-week repavement project on the 91 Express Lanes between SR-55 in Anaheim and Orange County/Riverside County line is nearing the halfway mark. Paving in the eastbound direction is 75 percent complete following a one-night closure on October 2, reduced from two nights after work progressed ahead of schedule. Crews will complete the final 2.5 eastbound stretch the weekend of October 7. To date, crews have paved 7.5 miles (15 lane miles).
Work will begin on the westbound lanes on October 14 and continue for five weekends, skipping the Veterans Day weekend beginning November 11. For schedules and other information, click here.
Funding for the $24.4 million project comes from money set aside from tolls paid by drivers of the 91 Express Lanes. No taxpayer dollars are being used to fund the project.
In addition to the pavement work, the project includes replacing six changeable message signs, restriping, replacing channelizers, completing electrical work and replacing pavement markers. The entire project is expected to be completed by January 2017.
