With the addition of 204 new pieces of protective equipment, driver barriers will now become standard on the OC Bus fleet. Approximately 220 buses are already equipped with driver barriers and the remaining fleet will be retrofitted to include the new barriers.
Safety is OCTA’s top priority, and the installation of the driver barriers demonstrates OCTA’s commitment to maintaining the safety of coach operators. OCTA began testing the barriers on select routes in 2019 and drivers who tested the equipment said they felt safer overall.
