OCTA Shines at WTS Gala with Diversity Award, Transportation Video

Nearly 350 supporters gathered at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel on Dec. 7 for the 29th Annual Awards & Scholarships Gala of the Women’s Transportation Seminar-Orange County (WTS-OC).

Chairman Michael Hennessey and Director Al Murray accepted the WTS Rosa Parks Diversity Leadership Award on behalf of OCTA, which recognizes and promotes women in the workplace and honors diverse populations through outreach programs such as the launch of the 64 Xpress in a largely Vietnamese area and a Mexican consulate partnership that encourages students to use public transportation.

OCTA CEO Darrell Johnson also attended the gala.

One of the evening’s highlights, a video co-produced by OCTA used vintage and modern photos to show the history of Orange County transportation from the Pacific Electric Red Cars of the 1920s through today’s busy freeways. To view the video, click here.

In 2017, WTS raised a record-setting $80,000 through corporate sponsorships for scholarships and educational programs and served more than 300 young men and women through Transportation Art, Girls Engineering Day, Transportation Academy, Mentoring and Leadership Training.
