OCTA Shares Transportation Industry Insights with Students

Each year, OCTA hosts students from the Transportation Academy sponsored by The Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) of Orange County. Now in its seventh year, the academy educates undergraduate and graduate college students on different facets of the transportation industry.

The academy received more than 60 applications this year and selected 25 student participants majoring in urban and regional planning, civil engineering, and transportation science.

Because of safety concerns over COVID-19, the event was conducted virtually and was successful in having the same positive impact as the traditional in-person gathering.

During the day, CEO Darrell E. Johnson, Deputy CEO and Chief Operating Officer Jennifer L. Bergener, and staff members Rose Casey, Director of Capital Programs, Christina Byrne, Manager of Public Outreach, Carolyn Patterson, Manager of Bus Operations, and Sam Kaur, Manager of Revenue and Grants Administration, addressed the students about OCTA’s management success during COVID-19.

Speakers also talked about their roles and collaboration, educational backgrounds and career paths, motivation and mentors, and major lessons learned.
