Open Houses Raise Awareness about OC Streetcar

On May 9 and 13, OCTA conducted community open houses in Santa Ana to raise awareness about OC Streetcar. Expected to begin operations in late 2020, Orange County’s first modern streetcar will link the bustling Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center (SARTC), which provides Metrolink train, OC bus, and intercity and international bus services, with a new multimodal hub at Harbor Boulevard/Westminster Avenue in Garden Grove. Along the way, OC Streetcar will serve popular destinations such as the 4th Street Market and other unique restaurants and shops, an artists’ village, several colleges, and the historic downtown Santa Ana and Civic Center with its government offices, federal, state and local courthouse.

Approximately 70 residents, businesses and stakeholders from Santa Ana, Garden Grove and neighboring cities attended. Highlights included exhibits about the project corridor, videos, and overviews of the maintenance and storage facility and streetcar stop designs.

Partially funded by Measure M, Orange County’s half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements, OC Streetcar will increase transportation options and provide greater access along its 4.15-mile route (in each direction) along Santa Ana Boulevard, 4th Street, and the Pacific Electric right-of-way to Harbor Boulevard in Garden Grove.
