Measure M Gets a New Name and New Look

Measure M, Orange County’s sales tax for transportation improvements, affects Orange County life every day. Funds from Measure M reduce freeway congestion, improve safety and efficiency on local roads, add new bus service and regional multimodal connections, and provide safe, convenient transportation to those with special needs.

A recent survey, however, indicates that many people do not know what Measure M is. Nearly three-quarters of those surveyed – 72 percent – were unfamiliar with the transportation sales tax, which was renewed by voters in 2006 and will provide approximately $13.5 billion to improve transportation in Orange County over a 30-year period. Adding to the confusion is the name of the sales tax recently adopted by LA Metro, also known as Measure M.

To raise awareness and recognition of Orange County’s Measure M, OCTA has approved a new name – OC Go – and a new logo. The OC Go logo is consistent with other OCTA branding and logos such as OC Bus, OC Streetcar, OC Bike, OC Vanpool and OC Metrolink. The tagline, “Local tax dollars at work” will also be included in messaging when needed.

With approval of the new identity, OCTA has begun developing style and signage guidelines to ensure a consistent look. Signage will be installed so OC Go projects can be easily recognized during construction. A public awareness campaign is in the planning stages to incorporate OC Go in communications material such as fact sheets, webpages, blog and social media posts.
